Pace Yourself: Drawing Basics
Small group or 1:1 online lessons for adults & young adults ready to build real drawing fundamentals — from your first digital brushstroke to confident, intentional illustration.
Taught by Annie Nguyen — illustrator with 5+ years of professional experience and author of the mental health picture book * What If I Leave? * As a neurodivergent artist herself, Annie understands that even a stick figure can carry real self-doubt, and that consistency doesn't always come easily. You won't be judged here.
Format & Pacing:
**Sessions:** live 1:1 OR Group of 3-4 :1 video calls, 1.5–2 hours each (plus your own practice time), depending on your pace. **After the basics, you'll get prompts to apply what you've learned directly to your own artwork, with guidance through the process.

Who this is for

– Beginners with zero (or some) experience in digital painting.
– Anyone who wants a real foundation, not just “tips and tricks”.
– Adults and young adults: no age cutoff, just curiosity.
– 100% online! All you need is a webcam and a willingness to make ugly drawings 🙂

What you'll learn

A typical lesson plan covers all the fundamentals of drawing and design tools, building a comprehensive foundation:

– Software Basics: getting comfortable in Photoshop & Procreate
– Core fundamentals: line, shape, value, color & composition.
– Drawing with Intention: not just copying, but understanding *why*.
– From Reference → Creativity: drawing from reference, then modifying it to tell your own story.

Beyond the lesson

Sessions aren’t just technique 🙂 You’re also welcome to ask about:
– What it’s really like being an employed or freelance artist.
– What to expect breaking into the industry.
– Portfolio review/prep for art school applications.

***Be patient with yourself, and make as many “ugly drawings” as possible along the way, that’s how the fundamentals actually stick.***
